Homespun Workshirt

$180.00

If you've ever found yourself researching early American workwear textiles you likely know that many textiles, like Stifel, were only sold by the yard, not as ready to wear garments. The homespun designs you might be lucky enough to find are all truly one of a kind, covetable pieces of American history. One wonders, why aren’t more farmers designers these days?

After being prompted by a costume designer, we took a closer look at favorite, early American Stifel blouse from our archive as inspiration for a homespun workshirt of our own. Swapping some more costume-y elements out, we thought long and hard about a fit that was truly versatile. 7 recycled vintage buttons cleverly placed down the front allow for a range of styling opportunities. Whether buttoned up and under a blazer, or unbuttoned at the top and buttoned at the bottom with beat up work trousers, this piece is a real chameleon.

Made of a lightweight, deadstock Japanese striped fabric that is 20% wool, 80% cotton. You'll reach for this one on hot humid days (take our word for it) and those shoulder season days that feel warm and chilly at the same time.

This special, one a kind piece was made by hand by polymath artist and sewist, Cody Nowell in her New Hampshire studio. Limited run. One size-see below for fit notes.

This is a one size fits situation—best fits sizes XS-M. Buttons at the arms and waist allow for more play in fit. When fully buttoned, the bottom hem will naturally blouse over. Handwash, but if you do want to play it fast and loose use the gentlest setting, cold and hang to dry.

All measurements in inches. Have questions? We have answers: whitney@gamineworkwear.com
