Miles Coverall

$220.00

If you’ve been following our work for a more than a few years, you may recall the capsule on our site dedicated to vintage workwear called, “MILES.” Working with cottage industry quilters, we repaired vintage coveralls and overalls that had seen many miles in order to get them back to work. Back in those days, coveralls were not yet a mainstay category of womenswear and workwear wasn’t yet a trend (lol).

Getting to inspect so many one-of-a-kind pieces from the larders of our favorite collectors, old barns and garages got us thinking about thoughtfully combining all the traits we loved into a dream coverall for our work wardrobe. Over the years, as we tweaked our secret coverall, we saw so many options enter the market—rather than being discouraged, we felt we had the luxury of time to understand what was missing and whether we could fill a void. Enter our very favorite collaborator, archivist at Dickies and street style guru, Ann Richardson.

When we first told Ann about our desiderata, she told us about a classic coverall in the Dickies archive that might offer a solid point of departure. With a tailor’s eye, we dialed the fit of this beloved archival piece to serve variety of women’s bodies, all while being careful to leave a little room for layering—something that seemed missing from most ‘second skin’ options available for women. We tweaked the construction of troublesome spots to keep the fit flattering, but to allow for a greater range of movement, especially across the shoulders. When it came to textiles, we couldn’t deny the soft hand and rugged durability of our favorite, 10 oz 100% cotton fisher stripe—and of course, it just so happened that hardly any coveralls were made with pattern, which is incredibly helpful if you’re covered in filth. We’re super excited to offer this piece in a solid color option as well-a super lovely, heard wearing, olive herringbone twill that works beautifully on & off duty.

After many years of considered tweaks and trials, we’re so tickled to offer the sort of dream work clothing that we hope stays with you for many, many miles…

A few sizing tips:

  • If you’re between sizes and prefer things to fit more tailored, order a size down.

  • Sizing on this garment is quite flexible—if you usually wear a size “M" (4-8), you will do great in the size, M. Depending on where you fall in that size range, you might also love the fit of the size “S” if you’re not interested in layering.

  • We worked to dial this fit for women who are curvier and straighter, with built-in flexibility on the waist; if you have any issues figuring out if this piece will work for you, please don’t hesitate to reach out!
